The Duke of Edinburgh's Award
A students review of their Duke of Edinburgh expedition.
"Where do I begin? This weekend, and I think I can speak for all of us, was exhausting. By the end, I don't think anyone remained upright! Across this weekend, we have had an amazing time: from the scorching sun to the floods of rain; moral amongst everybody was heart warming. Our 40km or so walk began on day one: Saturday. There was an abundance of issues around every corner. Stories circulated; we, group eight, will re-routed due to cattle-related issues, group 9 acquired accountable blisters, and group 7 was getting a little off track… regardless on the final stretch before our destination, Bo Peep Farm, we felt like we'd conquered Everest. Singing, smiling and chatting, we walked into camp with pride: we'd made it! After, commenced an evening of great spirits. Everyone was involved; be it playing cards or toasting marshmallows on our beloved trangias. And all this to the soundtrack of guitar accompanied singing! I wouldn't say day two was so beautiful… Cooking breakfast in the pouring rain was no way a highlight and the prospect of walking for six hours was unsurprisingly unappealing. Still recovering from yesterday, we set off. Through the rain and wind, we persevered. For me, this weekend was all about each other. Disney duets and Milky Way stripey spread brought us altogether. Together; through the rain, humidity, disputes: we did it".
