GCSE BUSINESS STUDIES

Syllabus: ICAA /CEA

The course has been designed to develop knowledge and understanding of all types of business activity. There are five units of study:

• Business and its Environment
• Human Resources
• Finance & Accounting
• Marketing
• Production

With the exception of the introductory unit, Business and its Environment, each unit of study will be based upon a fictional company, requiring students to demonstrate problem-solving and decision-making skills.

In addition, students will make regular use of the suite of computers in the Business Studies room, especially in Year 11 for submission of their coursework.

Assessment: Coursework (3000 word project) 25%
Terminal Examination 2hrs 75%

WHAT IS BUSINESS STUDIES?

Business Studies continues to be one of the fastest growing of academic subjects; this is not surprising considering the use we all make of the business community and the career possibilities it holds. At BGN we try to create a realistic business environment in which to work. There is a full suite of computers available, as well as a specialist business library and many other resources, all of which are used to work on case studies and simulations of real problems.

GCSE BUSINESS AND COMMUNICATION SYSTEMS
Syllabus: AQA

This course has been designed to combine Business Theory with ICT practical work. It is currently offered at Foundation Level only, and is available to pupils upon application to the Business Studies Department.

Subject areas include: the business environment, people in organisations, accounting and finance, marketing, operations management and business strategy.

How is the course structured and assessed?

Students study 2 modules in their first year, all of which are assessed by exam. They build upon this knowledge in their second year with 2 further exam based modules.
