Year 11 Coursework
Year 11 pupils have just started on their coursework task this term. The coursework takes the form of a formal business report of approximately 3,000 words, based upon the scenario of a supermarket. Although the scenario itself is fictional, all their report findings must be based upon actual research undertaken in the real world, so they may well be coming home with questions about your opinions and any interesting shopping experiences that you may have had!
Coursework Submission dates are:
Interim - End of term 1 (October)
Draft - End of term 2 (December)
Final - End of January 09
Welcome!
As we say goodbye to Mr Linfitt, we welcome two new members of staff into the Business Studies Department; Miss Lister has been seconded from Science in order to teach both Year 10 business groups and to help with some Year 11 classes, and Miss Mabasha joins us from the Maths Department twice a week to share the Year 10 business teaching. A busy term ahead for our tow NQT's!
Venturefest Update:
Sam, Ciaran and Amy spent a busy day down in Oxford on Monday 2nd July, demonstrating their enterprise skills in front of a panel of judges lead by a female version of Sir Alan Sugar. Both Sam and Ciaran were short-listed by the judges, but it was Sam who was chosen to progress into the final day for a head to head against a student from one of the other competing schools. Sam`s cool head and business acument earned her the judges unanimous vote as winner of the Venturefest final.
CONGRATULATIONS SAM! - YOU`RE HIRED!
On Wednesday 20th June, five AS Business Studies students took part in an `Apprentice` style Enterprise Day hosted by Science, Oxford. Their brief was two-fold - to work as part of a problem-solving team consisting of two Science and two Business Studies students whilst at the same time trying to convince the judges that as individuals they should progress to the next stage of the competition, By the end of the day just six students were chosen to compete in the two day Venturefest event in July - and THREE OF THEM WERE BGN STUDENTS! So well done and good luck to Sam Murphy, Ciaran Perucca and Amy Watson who will be competing for the chance to win £1,000 and a four week work placement during the summer. Watch this space for news of their exploits!
With the current government emphasis on Enterprise in Schools, BGN pupils took full advantage of four free workshops on offer during February and March. Thirty Year 10 pupils got involved in two separate Enterprise Days in Abingdon and Oxford on Wed 28th Feb, swiftly followed by Year 12 students who took part in an Enterprise Decision Game at Science Oxford the following week. Even some Year 9 pupils got in on the act when twelve future Business students were invited to join Year 10 pupils from four other schools for an Enterprise Challenge at Bodicote House on Mon 12th March; some of them even managed to win prizes during the day which bodes well for the future of the Business Studies Department!
Cracking `A` Level results!
Of the 22 Business Studies students who sat `AS` and `A2` modular exams in January, a staggering 13 of them achieved an `A` grade in at least one of the modules. Surely this calls for some serious Easter egg treats at the end of term!
