The Term 'pastoral care' relates to the caring focus of all teachers.
It is the pursuit of personal academic and vocational guidance for pupils within a social context. As pupils progress through the school and grow in maturity, they should be developing into confident, thinking, compassionate and considerate human beings able to make decisions and choices. Pastoral care is the supportive process that operates to this end.
Mrs V Childs, Acting Deputy Headteacher, has overall responsibility for Pastoral Care.
Each year group has a Head of Year from years 7-11. Years 12 and 13 have a Head of Sixth Form. On a day-to-day basis the Form Teachers take responsibility for each member of their form.
Through this contact a relationship is built which is based on mutual trust and confidence. The form teacher also liaises with the Head of Year and of course parents as the need arises. On occasion it may be necessary to involve other agencies such as the School Nurse, the Educational Social Worker, the Connexions Personal Assistant or the School Police Liason Officer to provide the best opportunities for each pupil.
