Citizen / Leisure & Tourism forms part of the National Curriculum for students and covers the following areas:
- Personal Development
- Careers Education
- Citizenship
- Health Education
- Moral and Spiritual Education
- Enterprise Education
All pupils Year 7 - 11 have PSHE/Citizenship through extended tutorials and conference days. Visiting speakers, theatre groups, videos and current affairs help to ensure that the subject is interesting and relevant.
“'We really enjoyed the trip to Minehead (Butlins) - it was really great (Year 10 student) May 2009"
The Sixth Form have a programme arranged for them which involves the development of key skills throughout the topics listed above. These lessons and conferences are supplemented by work undertaken in subjects such as R.E.
Students in Year 10 and 11 also work towards their Record of Achievement which includes careers information and development of individual skills. The scheme encourages students to be aware of their own skills and personal qualities and to action plan. Employers and educationalists value the information presented. This file can continue to be developed after students leave school.
Travel and Tourism:
Travel and Tourism is an option at KS4 (Year 10 & 11) and in the Sixth Form (courses which we offer are Edecel BTEC and Edexcel A Level). The subject aims to provide an understanding of the Travel and Tourism industry by exploring the different organisations that provide services and facilities. Customer service is studied in the industrial context with the support of employers and skills are developed. The UK Travel Industry is also explored to ensure pupils are aware of the range of destinations and issues.
Study is mainly through research, visits to employers, practical field visits and presentations. IT skills are developed throughout each unit of study.
