GSCE Business Studies

Syllabus:    CEA

The course has been designed to develop knowledge and understanding of all types of business activity.  There are seven main themes over 2 units:

• Unit 1 - Business Start Up
• Unit 2 - Business Development

Unit 1 themes:  Business Enterprise
                         Production
                         Marketing

Unit 2 themes:  Finance
                        Managing People
                        Business growth
                        Business plan

With the exception of the introductory theme, Business Enterprise, each unit of study will be based upon a fictional company, requiring students to demonstrate problem-solving and decision-making skills.

In addition, students will make regular use of the suite of computers in the Business Studies room, especially in Year 11 for submission of their Controlled Assessment.

Controlled Assessment:

Candidates complete one task from a range of tasks released by the examination board in September of each year.

Research : 12 hours
Report     :  3 hours

Assessment:                 

Written Exam  (Unit 1)  1hr 20mins = 35%

Written Exam  (Unit 2)  1hr 40mins = 40%

Controlled Assessment                  = 25%
