IMPORTANT FORTHCOMING DATES FOR SIXTH FORM STUDENTS

Last modified 27.04.12

Friday 27th April 2012

Dear Parent / Guardian

IMPORTANT FORTHCOMING DATES FOR SIXTH FORM STUDENTS

I am writing to make you fully aware of some important dates and arrangements as we approach the exam period and the end of the school year.

YEAR 12

STUDY LEAVE
All students received a copy of their individual exam timetable before Easter. In light of this, study leave for students begins on Monday 14th May. During this period, Year 12 are only required in school at the request of their teachers (revision classes and any individual support offered) and to sit external examinations. They are not required to attend daily registration. Attendance of the revision classes listed on the attached calendar is highly recommended as we have found them to be great benefit to all students who attended.

A2 LESSONS
On Monday 11th June all Year 12 students return to school. Registration will be as normal and then during period 1 there will a special assembly welcoming students back and sharing expectations and aspirations for the summer and academic year ahead. From period 2 onwards all students will begin their A2 courses (the only exception will be the small number of Maths students who will still be  required to sit some AS exams so some special consideration will be granted).

This four week period of lessons is invaluable as many staff use it to begin coursework tasks and to set targets for the next academic year. We will insist that students attend all lessons even if they think they may drop that subject (past experience tells us students regularly change their mind when they receive their results).

ENRICHMENT WEEK
From Monday 9h July, Year 12 are in school but do not have timetabled lessons. Alternatively, we have worked hard to arrange a variety of activities and talks to continue to prepare them for life post BGN. Most importantly, they will begin the UCAS application process.

WORK EXPERIENCE
Your child should have already arranged their own week long placement which begins on Monday 16th July. If for any reason your child does not have a placement, please note that they will be required to be in school that week.

END OF SCHOOL
Year 12 officially ends for your son or daughter on Friday 13th July.

YEAR 12 & YEAR 13

SIXTH FORM BALL
The Prom is at the Whately Hall Hotel on Thursday 19th July. A sit down meal will be served at 7pm for staff and Year 13 pupils only. From 9pm until 12am, Year 12 students and other guests are welcome to arrive for speeches and a disco. Students will receive a formal invitation with more details shortly.

YEAR 13

STUDY LEAVE
Study leave for students begins on Friday 1st June. During this period, as is the arrangement with Year 12, our senior students are only required in school at the request of their teachers (revision classes and any individual support offered) and to sit external examinations. They are not required to attend daily registration. Attendance of the revision classes listed is highly recommended as we have always found them to be great benefit to all students who attend.

LEAVERS MASS
To mark the end and celebrate their time in the Sixth Form, we will invite all our Year 13 students to our annual Leavers Mass - this is always a lovely occasion which is followed by refreshments and a ‘digital yearbook’ in the LRC. This will take place on Friday 15th June beginning at 7pm. Again, all parents and students will receive a formal invitation with more details shortly but please out the date in your diary.

UCAS APPLICATIONS
All students applying to University this year have received and accepted offers. We will shortly be talking through Results Day with our students. If you wish to familiarise yourself with the different scenarios should your son or daughter achieve or not the conditions of their offer, please follow the links for parents on www.ucas.com.

I have put all this information and more on the attached sheet for your convenience. If you have any queries or concerns about the above, please do not hesitate to contact me at school. I would like to take this opportunity to wish your child every success in their upcoming examinations.

Yours faithfully

Chris Martin
Head of Sixth Form
