HPV VACCINATION PROGRAMME IN SCHOOLS

The School Health Nursing
team will be routinely offering the HPV immunisation to girls in year 8. This
is an immunisation given 3 times over a six month period. The HPV vaccine protects against the two strains of HPV (16 and 18) that
cause cervical cancer in over 70% of women, around 800 women die every year from cervical cancer. Last year over 88%
of year 8 girls were vaccinated.
